Mainly building custom speaker boxes out of MDF.and a very good blade, not the one that comes with it. Motor burned up and seized after 2 years of very cared for moderate use. Nice while it lasted.
There is no zero clearance blade slot so don't try cutting small. I wish I spent the extra bucks on a Bosch or maybe even a higher model of Jet The miter jig is so loose in the slot that it cannot be trusted. I use the fence off the Craftsman 10" that I replaced with the JET. It cuts straight IF you throw away the ultra-crappy fence. The belt drive and sssembly structure are adequate for the price. It is made from totally substandard guage aluminum ( a couple of steps ubove Alcoa Oven Foil) and bows out at the center when clamped in position. It is a quick-and-dirty-use saw.
The fence isn't the greatest, but what I expected for a saw in this price range. However if you measure the fence from the blade when you are settings its position you can get it perfectly parallel and obtain accurate results. I upgraded the blade to a good quaity Freud ripping blade which helped improve performance even further. The belt drive motor appears to have plenty of power and runs very smooth. After doing research on several different models and manufacturers I chose this saw mainly because of the belt drive, manufacturer, and positive feedback from other people. I purchased this saw to use for projects I have ongoing around the house. Overall the saw works great. In addition to ripping I've also used a dado stack on this saw with much success.
The miter slots are non-standard and were filled with paint causing a start stop motion when pushing work through the blade, these were cleaned and shimmed X and Y) and I made a custom miter rail -18" aluminum - to compensate for the ultra short unit that came with the saw. The combination blade angle/height adjustment still continues to be a source of irritation as to adjust one is to throw the other out of sync and requires several attempts to make sure both are correct.
I did the redesign and rework when they did not have a solution - tried to return the unit through Jet and was advised they fix only, not refund.JET 708315BTC JBTS-10BT-3 15 Amp Benchtop Table Saw The unit is quieter than most units and the belt drive works as advertised.
The fixed stops for 90 and 0 degrees were 3 degrees out in each direction (total of 6 degrees) and required a rework of the bridle assembly to permanently fix. Jet Customer service is friendly but it is obvious they are dedicated to professional equipment, not this unit.
Purchased this item 4/2008 and it had the following issues - table surface was to rough to be useful until sanded and polished to a smoother finish - plywood would not push forward without hanging - the throat plate seat was uneven causing the plate to be higher than the surface and causing work to hang on edge (ground and shimmed), the screw heads holding the plate were also too tall and had to be replaced with "thin" head screws to avoid work hanging on these. After fixing these issues and mounting on a custom platform with a real dust collection system it works.
Next time I go to Grizzly and purchase a better unit.
I am very pleased with this saw. The Jet is alot smother running and quiter than most other saws at this price. After reading all of the reviews, I still wanted this belt driven saw.The mitre gauge and rip fence were better than I expected after reading the reviews. The mitre gauge and rip fence are about the same as you would find on any other saw at this price. I have a craftsman rip fence that works well on this Jet. The belt drive dosen't have as much vibration as other saws have.
